The Fourth World Journal moved from a subscription based journal to open access in Sept 2025. The FWJ publishes original research, studies, commentaries, and analyses of the ideas, knowledge, and conditions of more than 5,000 Fourth World (Indigenous) Nations, representing over 1.9 billion people globally.
The journal publishes articles across a diverse range of fields, including:
Anthropology, communication and cross-cultural studies, demography, indigenous environmental sciences, food sovereignty, development governance, economics, education, ethics, geography, history, international relations, indigenous legal systems and law, linguistics, media studies, methodologies, philosophy, political science, population studies, psychology, public health, sociology, literature, visual and performing arts (music, theater, and dance), religious studies, and women’s/feminist studies.

Material published in the Fourth World Journal under Open Access is the original work of the author(s). The author(s) retain copyright and agree to license their work under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0).
