Resumen
This article addresses the commercial sexual exploitation of Aboriginal women in Canada, focusing on the critical issue of prostitution within the context of ‘unceded territories.’ Cherry Smiley, representing the Aboriginal Women’s Action Network, highlights how systemic exploitation devalues Native women’s lives and perpetuates violence and inequality. Presented at the People’s Tribunal on Commercial Sexual Exploitation, the article challenges the normalization of these injustices and advocates for legislative reforms such as the Nordic Model, which aims to protect prostituted women by targeting the demand for paid sex. Emphasizing the need for real choices, collective action, and respect for Indigenous sovereignty, the article calls for stronger protections and social change to ensure the safety and freedom of Aboriginal women.
