Abstract
The murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officers sparked global outrage and protests against racism, leading to the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement. The articles trace the racist origins of American policing back to the colonial era, emphasizing the systemic racism embedded in law enforcement practices. They discuss the historical context of slave patrols, militias, and their evolution into modern police departments, shedding light on the enduring legacy of oppression and discrimination. The narrative explores the potential of creating new institutions to serve non-white communities in America as a means to peacefully bring about change in the country's police institutions, underscoring the urgent need for systemic change and police reform.
