Abstract

This article explores Aymara perspectives on Chilean state-led development projects in the northern Andes. Using participatory action research, it examines the tensions between rapid economic growth and the preservation of Aymara cultural and natural resources. The findings emphasize the importance of genuine community involvement in social and environmental impact assessments to address the marginalization of Indigenous communities. The article highlights the need for inclusive decision-making processes that respect Aymara knowledge and priorities, ensuring sustainable development. It calls for approaches that balance economic objectives with cultural and environmental preservation to support the well-being and rights of the Aymara people in the face of ongoing change.
