Abstract
This article explores reflexive writing as a method for decolonising research involving Indigenous peoples. Louis Royce Botha, a Westernised scholar from Oslo University College, critically reflects on his research practices and the tensions between Western and Indigenous knowledge systems. Emphasizing critical methodology and reflexive ethnographic approaches, Botha challenges conventional social science research assumptions. The article advocates for a more balanced and reflexive approach that respects Indigenous perspectives and knowledge frameworks. Through examining methodological tools used in Indigenous research, the study highlights the importance of reflexivity to address power imbalances and foster ethical research partnerships. This work contributes to advancing decolonising methodologies by encouraging researchers to critically analyse their positionality and the impact of their methods in Indigenous contexts.
