Abstract
This article explores the oral poetic form and content of Lakota narratives authored by George Sword, an Oglala Lakota man of the late 19th century, as studied by Dr. Delphine Red Shirt. It examines the structural features of oral composition and emphasizes the importance of contextual understanding when interpreting oral recitations.
