Abstract
The first article discusses the unjust aggression and oppression faced by the Ainu Moshiri due to Japanese annexation without negotiation, leading to forced land relinquishment. It also explores the economic impact of European colonization on the Lummi Nation, shifting from a self-sufficient potlatch economy to dependency on external trade, resulting in economic collapse and exploitation by the United States. The second article focuses on the Lummi Nation's economic challenges transitioning to a colonial market economy, leading to poverty and destitution. Efforts towards recovery and self-determination included advocating for tribal control of resources, resisting US government interference, and promoting self-sustaining economies. Both articles underscore the importance of recognizing exploitation and formalizing government-to-government relations.
