Abstract
South Africa has been a testing ground for boundary studies due to its complex history of ethnic homelands and apartheid. The first article examines the Volkstaat Council's quest for an Afrikaner homeland, proposing a mixed territorial solution with autonomous regions. The significance of this proposal lies in its potential impact on conflict resolution and nation-building in multicultural states. The second article discusses the possibility of designated areas for cultural self-determination and economic development in South Africa, particularly for the Afrikaner community. It analyzes the feasibility of creating autonomous regions similar to the former homelands, emphasizing negotiation, compromise, and nation-building strategies within the context of the New South Africa.
